Insider News: How to Attract the “A” List

Before the internet and internet job boards companies paid by the word and would cringe if they felt the need to put their logo or significant details about the position they were trying to fill.  The local newspaper loved it as the advertiser was paying by the letter and clumn inch.  Deadlines to place the ad could often also be a pain as most papers needed a minimum 2 working days to schedule the ad.

Today we can post on multiple job boards, have 24 hour access to post a new opening, and have an unlimited amount of space to advertise for that A List candidate at a nominal cost.  Learn more!

  Attracting the A List

The C.A.S.E. for Six Sigma

Six Sigma plus i-CASE equals Lean software process.  The Lean principle of Six Sigma emphasizes speed and efficiency.  It removes redundancy and waste in the process of meeting requirements.  As much as possible, automation is utilized and all process measurement data capture and documentation are built into the process itself.  An integrated Computer-Aided Software Engineering (i-CASE) technology, such as CA Gen, embodies such principle in the software process.

The very reasons many IT organizations used to reject i-CASE technology are precisely its strengths.  Some IT professionals found its model-based approach too restrictive.  However, experienced software process and quality professionals on successful projects were able to see the technology in its true light.  Of course IT developers spent way too much time and effort dealing with over-complex underlying technical platform details.  On the other hand, the i-CASE tool facilitated exactly what businesses required and not a great deal more.  It allowed rapid development of stable and reliable transaction processing systems based on appropriately modeled business requirements.  Learn more!

A Tale of Two Candidates

Tale of Two Candidates

In days gone by, a candidate took the time to write a minimum 3 paragraph cover letter to compliment their resume and, if they were really on the mark, printed it on ivory colored linen resume paper and sent it in a matching envelope. What happened? The internet is what happened. Now candidates can apply for 5+ opportunities in the time it took yesteryear to compose a cover letter and target his or her resume towards one specific ad.

I am not encouraging candidates to buy up large quantities of stamps and resume paper. However, I do believe offering more information in the submittal process and targeting your resume to the opportunity you are seeking will pay dividends in ensuring your resume is in the “Talk To” vs. the “No Thank You” stack.   Learn more!
